Personalized life style change to control myopia
At our myopia control clinic, we believe that managing myopia goes beyond just optical solutions. We provide personalized lifestyle modifications for children, which can significantly impact the progression of myopia. Our team will guide you and your child through these important changes:
1.Increased Outdoor Time:
Studies show that spending 2 hours or more outdoors daily can slow down the progression of myopia. Sunlight and natural environments help the eyes focus better at different distances, reducing strain from near work.
2. Screen Time Management:
Excessive time spent on screens (mobile phones, tablets, computers) is linked to worsening myopia. We recommend limiting screen time and ensuring regular breaks during screen use (like the 20-20-20 rule: looking at something 20 feet away for 20 seconds every 20 minutes).
3. Healthy Sleeping Patterns:
Sleep plays a crucial role in eye health. Poor sleeping habits, especially insufficient sleep, can affect vision development in children. We advise maintaining consistent and sufficient sleep, ideally 9–11 hours per night depending on the child’s age.
4. Working Distance:
Reading or using screens too closely can increase eye strain. We encourage children to maintain an appropriate working distance of at least 30-40 cm (12-16 inches) from screens or books. Proper ergonomics can prevent eye fatigue and slow myopia progression.
5. Correct Posture:
Proper posture while reading, writing, or using devices can reduce strain on the eyes. Encouraging your child to sit upright, avoid slouching, and maintain good posture during near tasks will promote better eye health.
By implementing these lifestyle changes, alongside our specialized treatments, we aim to create a holistic approach to controlling and managing your child’s myopia.
